Assistance League of Kansas City
In 23 years, Operation School Bell (OSB) has provided new clothing to 25,128 children . During 2014-2015, 2,236 elementary and 341 middle school students, from 57 schools received new clothing. Schools recommend impoverished children for OSB. Numbers served are based on numbers of children who receive free/reduced school lunches . The schools transport the children to the OSB store. Assisted by volunteers, each child receives two pairs of pants/skirts, three tops, six pairs of socks, six pairs of underwear, hat/gloves, a $20 Payless shoe voucher, a book and a health/ hygiene kit. Middle school children are met at Target by Assistance League volunteers where they shop for their clothing. Operation School Bell has grown significantly. In 2004-2005, 939 students received clothing from Operation School Bell. By 2014-2015, that number had increased more than 270% to 2577, which increased the budget exponentially to $300,109 in expenses.
